“It is the mark of an educated man to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it.”
– Aristotle –

Struggling through writing a biography on yourself for the quarterly company newsletter is one thing, but when it’s the most important project you’ve ever worked on, you come to find a new demand of yourself you didn’t quite know existed. And so here we are.
There’s a mantra which has bubbled up to the surface of my mind over the years, “Demand better for yourself.” That’s not a light ask, for you or anyone else in your circle. Maybe it’s answering the call to start your own business. Maybe it’s quitting drinking. They are great ideas, and I’m in your corner, but you have to be willing to accept all possible outcomes.

You may have the willingness to go without pay for however long it takes to turn a profit, but do you have it in you to risk ostracizing those with whom you worked? Your friends, your managers, your company at-large? Do you risk going into competition with a much larger company?
What about if you want to give up alcohol so you can focus on your pursuits? Where do your drinking buddies land in your new life path? The difficult answer may be, they don’t.
There’s a song I really like that will give you a feel for what you might hear.
Come hang out
‘Cause you’re outta your mind
You’re working so damn hard
You forgot what you like
And come hang out
Don’t you leave us behind
But I’ll be there next time
I’ll be there next time
